I’ve participated in memes and challenges before, but this is my first nomination for a blog hop. Cue the big band and release the balloons and streamers! Thank you Raewyn Hewitt!!! I’m pretty late in getting it done – Hey! I didn’t say stop the music! I said late, not lazy. – Er… as I was saying, I had family in town just after getting back from a vacation. I realize there are many amazing people out there who can get anything done under any circumstances, but not I. No, friends, I-
You’ll have to come in closer for this. I must whisper, or I might cause a panic. I’m about to reveal something only everybody who has to interact with me on a regular basis knows. Something… counter-cultural about myself.
I am a mono-tasker. That’s right. I only do ONE THING at a time. Like they did in the old days. Most recently, I happened to be visiting with family.
Phew! That wasn’t so bad. Wanna hear something else? I don’t own an iPhone! Even weirder? I don’t want one! Bwahahahahaha! Look at me and my bad self!
Now that you know why this didn’t get done sooner, on to the Next Big Thing Blog Hop! I currently have two works in progress, but as I know the characters from the first better, I’ll answer for that one.
THE NEXT BIG THING BLOG HOP.
What is the working title of your book?
Faerie Blood
Where did the idea come from for the book?
I find the human body fascinating. Not in a Renaissance Art way. In a, “Whoa! Did you see this epithelial sample?” or even a, “You say you have a fungal infection in your eye? How fascinating! Er, I mean, wow, that must be awful. I’m so sorry to hear that… Tell me all about it,” way.
Disturbing. I know.
Mid-year 2011, I was mulling over the idea of writing a story about a part-human, part-mythical-creature woman, [removed due to an interesting development] Thus was born Fairy Blood.
What genre does your book fall under?
Contemporary Fantasy
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
When Harsha learns that the disease killing her and her brother is not of human origin, she sets out on a quest to find a magical cure in a world that lost its magic centuries ago.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Um… Maybe Chris Hemsworth could be a good Zeeb. Zeeb is my werewolf. Mr. Hemsworth would be a bit tall and beefy for Zeeb, but he does the long-hair-and-beard-look well and I think his acting style would suit the character. Harsha… hmm. Maybe Liv Tyler? Maybe. Or Cate Blanchett. One of those ladies who can pull of graceful, tired, upset, and overjoyed in one scene. I don’t think I’ve seen any actresses who could really pull off Seraph, the dragon, without seeming like a feminist statement.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Self-published.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
One month
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Er, I haven’t actually read much Contemporary Fantasy. Something like The Spiderwick Chronicles for grown-ups would come close. -ish.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Self-sacrifice; Searing loss; Clean romance; A bipolar Faerie
The lovely lady, Raewyn Hewitt, who nominated me for the blog hop also nominated me for the Leibester Award. I am so feeling the love about now! Can you tell my eyes are twinkling and I’m squeezing the life out of a happy little pink bunny? You can read my answers to Raewyn’s questions here.
For the Next Big Thing Blog Hop, I nominate:
Now, I may be a little pretentious to ask some of you to notice my blog and respond to it. I’m not even sure some of you have blogs yet. Consider it a compliment and respond or ignore as fits your schedule.
Rachel Horwitz, another of my favorite authors, got a Next Big Thing Blog Hop nomination as well! You can read her answers here: http://www.rachelhorwitz.com/blog/2012/11/07/the-next-big-thing-blog-hop

Thanks. I may not qualify,
None of my current WiPs is a novel. At the moment, I’m working on these three projects;
– another non-fiction book for the “Writing” series (to follow “Writing Fight Scenes” and “Writing Scary Scenes”)
– another multi-author anthology for the Ten Tales series of fantasy and horror books (working title “Undead: Ten Tales of Zombies”)
– a collection of fantasy stories (set in the same world as my dark epic fantasy novel “Storm Dancer”)
The second complication is that I don’t keep a blog; I only guest on other people’s blogs. I suppose this means I’m out? 🙂

Well… you could guest on my blog and tell us about your short story collection if you like. =0D Or you could link to Storm Dancer and your “Writing” series. =0)

If you’ll host it, I’ll answer the questions. I could talk about the short story collection and perhaps focus on the story I’m working on right now.

LOL! I just realized I forgot to edit out the little Fairy Blood:’s that I used when i tried to answer for both my WIP’s. Oh well. It’s not like any of you thought I was a perfect writer anyway. This is why it’s important to get other people to edit your MS…

I am so glad I nominated you – your WIP sounds awesome. I’d heard the iron fae thing, but never thought about it being in human blood. (Sadly I have visions of humans with papercuts warding off the invading fae horde… but sadly that says more about me…). Also I am an ipod-less monotasker too! Life in Alaska must be scarily similar to NZ. I’m not sure if it’s having children who put so much pressure on the multitasking function that it overloads. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting. Are you doing NaNo this year?

Yup. =0) But I’m getting a very slow start and I don’t know my characters very well yet. I’ll probably make it to the Tuesdays at the library most often. Do you plan on going to any of the meet-ups?

Wow. Thanks for the mention.
I guess I’m going to have to decide which book to feature. The only one that is just about done (in the hands of beta-readers) is a book of poetry. The topic of these poems? The Bathroom.
Yes, just get the snickering over with already. It’s a collection of Clean poems about the one room in the house that Every One visits multiple times a day. But it won’t work for this purpose.
Hmm, there’s the suspence I just started for NaNo, and a half finished romance that is waiting for it’s muse to come back from sabatical.
Perhaps I’ll get back with you at the end of November. Hopefully I’ll have a first draft of ‘I Killed Them, Mama’, finished.
Great post, by the way. You make me think, and laugh. Bravo!

I think a little something on I Killed Them, Mama would interest me most, but maybe you have other followers who would prefer the romance? Or maybe writing about it would get your muse going again. =0)
I’m glad I made you laugh. =0) I can’t even begin to describe how comforting it is to know I’m not the only one who laughs at my jokes. Thinking is good too. =0)

Yes, I have been thinking it over, and I’ll do it about I Killed Them, Mama. Probably the first week of December.
It is nice to know your humor is appreciated, isn’t it?

First of all, congrats on your nominations!
Second, so cool that you mentioned Rose Andrea!
Third:
“You say you have a fungal infection in your eye? How fascinating! Er, I mean, wow, that must be awful. I’m so sorry to hear that… Tell me all about it,”
…I’m so glad I’m not the only person who does this.
